Flights with GARUDA INDONESIA AIRLINES

GARUDA Indonesia has launched its thrice-weekly Surabaya-Hong Kong services on February 1, and four-weekly Denpasar-Hong Kong today (February 2), targeting more than 75 per cent load factor on each sector.

Both routes are served with the new Boeing 737-800ER with 156 seats in two classes.

From Surabaya, flight GA 874 leaves at 08.50 and arrives in Hong Kong at 14.35. The return flight, GA 875, departs Hong Kong at 15.35 and arrives in Surabaya at 19.20.

From Denpasar, flight GA 856 leaves at 09.50 to arrive in Hong Kong at 14.35, and the return GA 857 departs at 15.35 and arrives in Denpasar at 20.20.

Garuda executive vice-president finance, Mr Eddy Porwanto, said the load-factor projection was based on the high travelling rate between Hong Kong and Indonesia, which was around 600,000 a year. Out of the number, 30 per cent was passengers between Surabaya and Hong Kong and 25 per cent between Denpasar and Hong Kong.

Results of a survey show the market segment on the Surabaya-Hong Kong route is 25 per cent businessmen, 50 per cent labour traffic and 20 per cent 'visiting relatives and friends' (VTR) traffic.

With the new flights, travellers from East Java do not need to transit in Jakarta.

Mr Porwanto added: "Our target is to be able to increase the services to both Surabaya and Bali to daily by year-end."

In the mean time, Garuda is working with Korean Air to syncronise their time-tables to enable Korean travellers on Korean Air to connect with Garuda to Bali, from Hong Kong.
