Bali Hotels Association reiterates precautionary measures.... - December 16, 2004
Bali – 16th December 2004 - Following further information from foreign governments in relation to a potential imminent terrorist attack aimed at international hotels frequented by foreigners, the Bali Hotels Association, an Association of 62 star rated hotels has today issued a statement to reiterate and reassure tourists to Bali of the measures to ensure their safety and security.
Commenting on the recent new information, Robert Kelsall, Chairman of the Bali Hotels Association said, “The threat of terrorism has been with us since 2002. In light of the recent new information, our membership has been requested to review the existing security standards that have already been implemented post October 2002; to reassure guests in the member hotels and prospective travellers of the pro-activity demonstrated by the membership in ensuring the safety and security of their hotel guests”
Precautions that have been in place in the Sanur Paradise Plaza Hotel and suites include:
- Additional security and police have been employed to ensure regular patrols of the property and securing main access points
- A security boom gate is in operation between the entarnce gates where cars are thoroughly inspected before being permitted to proceed into the premises
-CCTV monitoring is continued around the hotel
Following the re-issuance of the advise we are pleased to report that we have received a few cancellations and that the hotel is still very busy and fully booked for the coming festive seasons
Guests currently in house feel re-assured by the addiitonal security measures in place to guard their safety.
The Sanur Paradise Plaza Hotel and Suites is owned by an Indonesian company and managed under an Indonesian Branded hotel chain called Prime Plaza hotels and Resorts
The Travel Advisories have not changed and although there has been more specific information released, hotels in Bali have been on a high alert since the Bali Bombings of 2002 and the association has been very proactive and has taken heed of the travel advisories issued by foreign governments warning about the potential threat to tourists and the dangers of gathering in places populated by foreigners which includes night clubs, bars and hotels.
Post 2002, the Bali Police have also been proactive in conducting annual safety and security inspections of hotels to ensure that there is a heightened level of safety and security following the Bali Bombing in 2002. Member hotels have also been proactive in investing in both security training and equipment, including in some cases CCTV to maximise the level of security.
Hoteliers in Bali, having experienced one tragedy, are well aware of the threats from terrorism, as anywhere else in the world. A special committee has been established for some time within the association to focus on security and liaise with the necessary embassies and authorities to maximise the safety and security of tourists to the island of Bali and is confident that with this mutual cooperation that the Island of Bali is now safe.
